Wednesday 22 May 2013 - Free Floor Talk with Kereama Taepa - Rotorua Museum 22 May 2013
In this talk, local artist Kereama Taepa will talk about the inspiration behind his work and walk you through his exhibition KABLAM!Taepa is known for his unique combination of kōwhaiwhai (painted scroll designs) and motifs from popular culture within his detailed artworks. Using imagery such as smiley faces, guns and cell phones Taepa shows the impact of American street culture on youth and the increasing urbanisation of Māori communities.
Taepa’s practice spans art, graphic design and multi-media and includes an urban clothing line that has featured at New Zealand Fashion Week. In recent years Taepa has been experimenting with augmented reality, using innovations in new technologies to turn his graphic motifs into cool interactive apps.

Rhapsody Rotorua is a foremost International Schools Music Festival in New Zealand. With hundreds of participants it offers 3 days of full on music involvement. Bands, orchestras, choirs, ensembles, percussion groups, jazz groups, stage bands, guitar ensembles, tin whistlers and whatever type of performing art. All gather to participate in concert performances, adjudication, tutoring, clinics, master classes, workshops and play-outs. Perform in concert at the Rotorua Convention Centre Theatre and the Concert Hall.

RDC Civic Centre - 9.00am - 4.30pmTo encourage the reduction of Nitrate leaching to Lake Rotorua, the RDC Proposed District Plan includes provision for the allocation of Transferable Development Rights (TDRs). TDRs will convey an additional subdivision right for one extra lot per TDR.District Plan Hearings will begin on the 8th July. The LWQS Symposium on the 4th July - which has RDC support - seeks to explore this commendable initiative in greater detail to ensure optimal policy decisions result. Members of the general public are welcome to attend - membership subscription will be available at the registration desk on payment of the $5 membership fee and $15 donation ($20 in total). Tea breaks and lunch will be catered courtesy of the Rotorua District Council.
